Every Sunday between 8-9pm, people share photos of the flowers they have found growing wild in Britain and Ireland during the previous week on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky or Mastodon using the hashtag #WildflowerHour.
Including the hashtag #WildflowerID indicates that identification help would be appreciated from other members of the #WildflowerHour community.
Here at #WildflowerHour we are all about spreading love for the wild and naturalised plants that can be found blooming across Britain and Ireland. We don't try to sell things or make money, just encourage folk to appreciate and enjoy our fantastic wild flora! Our mission is to build an online #WildflowerHour community who can share their love of British and Irish wild flowers from 8-9pm on Sunday evenings and help each other to identify and learn about them.
In Spring and Summer we have challenges (a bit like botanical treasure hunts!) and introduce a new challenge each week. Here is the current challenge. The fun doesn’t stop during the coldest months, from October to February, when we run our winter challenge, #TheWinter10, and challenge our followers to find ten plants in bloom each week. Think that's difficult? You'd be surprised!
To help you on your #WildflowerHour journey have a look at our How to take part and Identification pages. We have a range of identification aids and infographics which can be found on our resources page.
On Wednesdays, there is a wilder offshoot of #WildflowerHour called #WildWebsWednesday, which celebrates the biodiversity that depends on our wild flora.
#WildflowerHour is independent from, but pleased to support the work of, the following organisations - Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland, Plantlife, The Wild Flower Society, The Wildlife Trusts and The Woodland Trust. We are also proud to support Peat Free April.
